Let's put that into perspective.

£550 for 1 hour's work. That is how much a firm gets for dealing with the entirety of a low value RTA claim.

£472,757 for witness statements. Even at £550 that is 860 hours, and I will make the assumption that a lot of the statements had common ground and that time was not charged at £550 or £690 or whatever, but lower. To me 860 hours equates to a solid 8.6 months of WIP (tiny firm, minimal overheads, no massive pressure on billing etc).

I can imagine the partners rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of how they can milk the claim. If I were Green I'd be going down the detailed assessment route then if the bill was majorly slashed down it'd be a complaint to the SRA.

Mind you, if I was Green I'd say publish and be damned, and then go after the claimants for breach of the NDA. Would have saved a lot of money.
