On a slightly more serious note, the letter "is signed by US-based GCs." Having worked in US firms, and dealt with US clients, many of them (especially in California) are very hot on diversity, at least on paper. I dimly recall that California Bar Rules have something about it too. So there could be teeth behind this (so far as the GCs are concerned), but whether the teeth will actually bite will depend on all manner of variables. At bottom, like most clients, they will want a good job done at a price they can accept, and they are less fussed about who does it.
