It is worth noting that anti-Jewish discrimination in Nazi Germany (short of the actual extermination policy) was entirely legal according to the Nuremburg Race Laws; and that much of the harrassment of democratic activists in Communist countries - then and now - has been conducted through politically-motivated criminal trials. Oppositionists expect to accept the consequences of their actions - that is why they are admired by the less brave among us - and it has been rightly said that sometimes it is the duty of a revolutionary organiser (in the sense of somone campaigning to change a fundamentally flawed system) to go to jail.
