We lawyers sometimes lack a sense of proportion. While fare evasion (as opposed to a genuine mistake, which is only too easy to make with our Byzantine rail fares system) is dishonest and deserves staying on record for a year, such cases should not swallow up court time or involve the need for professional advice, let alone representation, unless of course the defendant is ready to pay for it.
