"Over the past one hundred years, the legal profession has made great strides in terms of gender equality, but women are still not reaching senior leadership positions in equal proportions to men..."

By the same token, over the past one hundred years, society has made great strides in terms of gender equality, but men are still not voluntarily deciding to give up their careers to look after children, in equal proportions to women.

Ms Blacklaws, paint me a picture of the future you would like to see. What would a gender equal profession look like? How would you know if it existed? What metric would you use to identify it?

And in the increasing clamour for diversity above all things, can somebody - anybody - provide some clarity over whether diversity should trump ability in the candidate selection process? It seems to me that it has to be one or the other. It cannot be both. I would hate to think that I work for women who didn't know ascend the pole on their individual merits.
