I have seen the SRA allow a very senior solicitor whom by any interpretation has lied to a court to simply say it was not their intention to do so without sanction and then force juniors to give up their careers because their seniors have instructed them to lie. It does rather seem the juniors get the raw deal. Seniors are responsible for their and their staffs behaviour. If those of us with many years experience refuse to take responsibility for our actions (including managing our finances and our staff) how on earth can we expect those with less knowledge power and experience to do so. As we allow bad behaviour so will the consequences be visited upon us. Are being visited upon us. Dishonesty is a fundamental problem. It should always be dealt with in my view with severity. And senior people should take responsibility for managing their staff and their firms.
