Anon @ 9:45 with respect old thing you seem to have a limited understanding as to our constitutional form of democracy and a tenuous grasp on politics.

We elect representatives not delegates: hence Sir Graham Brady while being a 'leaver' with a constituency being overwhelmingly remain he still represents all his constituents in line with his beliefs as to what is in their and the national interest.

Parliament has over the ages frequently voted against the expressed views of the electorate (abolishing capital punishment, legalising homosexuality etc) and to do so is not 'undemocratic' regardless as to how the views of the electorate are expressed. I recommend Lord Hailsham's The Dilemma of Democracy .

As to politics: this is the art of the possible. Gaining a majority for the WA is not possible therefore we must look for something else. Given there is no merit in an extension of a few weeks or even months there are two possibilities (on the assumption that Parliament votes to prevent 'no deal')

1. We rescind Art. 50. We can do this unilaterally, but doing so would be at great political cost.
2. We seek the agreement of the EU to extend Art.50 for such time as to conclude a 'deal' which would mean that the need for the backstop is removed, a degree of certainty is provided for and so on.

The problem is that there is no guarantee that the EU would acquiesce in this and were they not to do so then (provided HMG introduces a Bill 'A bill to modify the previous Act) we will be left with little option but to either accept the current deal or go with 1 above.
