Anon at 17.32 . Our ability to deter any and all military compulsion if we need to does kind of give us the ultimate sanction should they insist on their paramount economic interests viz taking our money and buying brandy and cigars with it while our people go short. One of the reasons that we are borrowed to 86% of GDP is because we have kept all of these delightful people safe in their beds for 75 years and will continue to do so. All we want to do is to leave their straightjacket (which we were lied to about before joining) and not be charged tariffs. Not too much to ask as we sell much less to them than they do to us. That is not acceptable to them because it isn't in the rule book that they wrote and stick to. One of the possible outcomes of the current crisis is that we will get a change of leadership and the negotiating gloves will come off. When and if that happens the EU will be in serious danger. We do not seek that for them. We merely want out. It is disappointing that those who we have fought to keep free are not our friends when a few quid is at stake. Brexiteers are not surprised at this. Remainers will not recognise it at all.
