Not really the point. It was never about saying the LPC was not fit for purpose. It was to introduce an alternative route for those that don't want to pay £20k to sit a year long LPC if the same level of legal knowledge can be gained via several cheaper courses. The SQE presents the opportunity for low income students to take several short courses over perhaps a few years until they have the level of knowledge they would have got via an LPC. I have always supported the proposition of a single qualifying examination, like a driving test, without the need to follow a prescribed route of study. The knowledge is the important thing, not how you get it, and there will always be those who paid over £40k for their legal education who will be unhappy that future students have access to a cheaper route. In time the Bar will follow, they usually do.
