The ninth London Legal Walk was the greatest ever – more than 7,000 walkers (and runners) raised over £500,000 for the London Legal Support Trust.

The attorney general, gamely wearing a T-shirt advertising the fact, promised the walkers that he would take back to his cabinet colleagues the message that lawyers are not all self-centred fat cats. He did not promise that his colleagues would listen.

Chancery Lane’s hostelries did a good trade into the night: bright young things from criminal aid firm Tuckers and Magic Circle firm Clifford Chance had clearly worked up a thirst.

Team Gazette included a wide age range - from 57 years old down to two. Though it must be admitted the youngest member didn't walk the entire distance unaided - accepting a brief carry from, among others, one Igor Judge. 'I love children,' he told Obiter, while a judicial aid whispered by way of reassurance, 'he's the lord chief justice'. Only till September though, Obiter notes. Advocates among you may still be thinking ‘m’lud’ - Obiter’s already thinking ‘babysitter’.
