Practitioners have raised concerns about how a pilot to open the Court of Protection to the media is being conducted.

Sophy Miles, chair of the Law Society’s mental health and disability committee, said there is apprehension that the six-month pilot is being rolled out nationwide. ‘Running the pilot from January in all areas seems like a big decision to make,’ she told the Gazette, adding that it might be better to test the scheme regionally first.

Miles also said there was a lack of clarity about how the success of the pilot and the impact on people at the centre of cases will be assessed.
