South-west law firm Coodes Solicitors has launched a commercial disputes and insolvency team, enhancing the range of legal support the firm can offer to businesses.

Led by Coodes partner and litigation lawyer Verona Cocks, the new department will offer businesses expert legal advice on preventing and tackling disputes. These could range from shareholders actions, contractual disputes, banking or intellectual property disputes to fraud and insolvency litigation.

Currently a team of three lawyers, the firm aims to double its size within the next two years.

The new team is part of Coodes’ strategy to grow its commercial work. The firm recently established a business services team, bringing together its specialist business departments across Cornwall and into Devon.

Verona Cocks joined Coodes just under a year ago, with a wealth of experience from top law firms in London and the Midlands, which saw her representing some of the UK’s leading corporations. Having enhanced Coodes’ commercial disputes caseload, she is now focused on growing her new team over the coming year.

Verona Cocks said: ‘The fact that we are now in a position to launch a specialist team that is dedicated solely to supporting businesses through disputes and insolvency is testament to Coodes’ growing reputation for commercial law.

‘With our thriving commercial property, corporate and commercial, employment and regulatory departments, Coodes is now rightly characterised as a full-service commercial law firm.’
