Gregg Latchams has appointed Dr Hartley Booth, formerly lawyer to Margaret Thatcher, as a strategic adviser to the firm.

Dr Booth’s first commission was to help the Bristol firm develop its business in China, where he presented at a series of seminars with Gregg Latchams’ partners Paul Hardman and Ken McEwan under the auspices of Red Dragon Advisors, the one-stop shop China investment services consortium of which the practice is founder member.

In addition Dr Booth will help to develop the services the firm is beginning to offer from its London base in Berkeley Square.

Dr Booth was appointed lawyer to prime minister Thatcher as policy adviser on law and the environment, and held ministerial posts in the Foreign Office and Department of Education when an MP from 1992 to 1997.

He was British Government Trade Envoy in Central Asia for 14 years from 1998 to 2012 for which the Queen awarded him an OBE.

He is a Barrister at Law, having studied law at Bristol University and the University of Cambridge, where he was given a doctorate.

Richard Hill, managing partner at Gregg Latchams, said: ‘It is an exciting time at Gregg Latchams with a number of new initiatives that we have been working on over the last few years, such as our in-house lawyer service, now beginning to flower.

‘We see the appointment of Dr Booth as an excellent opportunity for Gregg Latchams to raise its profile particularly in the London and south-east and to help develop our new services.

‘In addition, through our association with Red Dragon Advisors the firm is helping to raise the position of Bristol as an international city for the benefit of the business community we serve.’

Dr Booth said: ‘I am delighted to be joining Gregg Latchams who help lead Red Dragon Advisors. By assisting Gregg Latchams I hope to play a part in promoting Anglo-Chinese and other international business, which is so important.’
