East Midlands law firm Nelsons Solicitors has promoted four members of staff to associate positions following a period of growth across the business.

Chris Huntingford, Melanie Morton, Simon Key and Emma Davies have all been promoted to associates in their respective teams.

Chris (pictured, top right), who joined Nelsons last May, manages the firm’s conveyancing team.

He specialises in providing advice on properties over £500,000 in value, but also deals with more technical conveyancing matters which may include complex leasehold or shared-ownership transactions, lease extensions and grants of rights over properties.

He said: ‘I’m very grateful for the confidence the firm has shown in me over the past 18 months, which has cumulated in my promotion to associate.

‘The property market continues to expand and we have positioned our conveyancing department to take full advantage of the improving market conditions.’

Melanie (pictured, second left) started her career at Nelsons in 2010 as a trainee solicitor and qualified in to the employment department in January 2011.

She now covers all aspects of employment law, advising on a variety of issues including unfair dismissal, discrimination, TUPE, contracts and policies, redundancies and restructures, settlement agreements and workplace disputes.

Melanie said: ‘I am delighted to have been made an associate with Nelsons, an established and reputable firm with great client care values.

‘The last 12 months have seen some radical changes in employment law and practice and I look forward to continuing to guide employees and employers through the ever-increasing minefield of workplace issues that face them.’

Emma (pictured, second right) started work at Nelsons in 2009, a year and a half into her legal career.

She specialises in Private Law Children Act disputes, divorce and matrimonial finances.

She said: ‘I hope to continue to progress my career at Nelsons and continue to develop my knowledge and expertise.

‘I am very happy to have been made an associate. I consider it to be mark of recognition of my contributions to the team along with it representing the next stage in progressing my career.’

Simon (pictured, top left), who specialises in commercial contract disputes, injunctions, defamation, civil fraud and personal disputes, started working at Nelsons in 2007.

He said: ‘I’m really pleased to have been promoted to associate at Nelsons – I’m extremely proud and looking forward to the challenge the role presents.

‘My aim for the next year is to progress and develop as a solicitor, gaining further experience and expertise. Nelsons is the perfect place for me to do that.’
