Bar and away
Things have certainly been heating up in the barristers' dispute with Richard Collins, executive director for policy at the Legal Services Commission. As reported last week, Mr Collins has ?written to the Bar Council suggesting that advising members not to sign contracts for very high cost cases could be a breach of competition law.
One irate barrister has now reported Mr Collins to the police for blackmail - an 'extreme charge' which he denies.
On Radio Four's PM show last week, presenter Eddie
Mair asked Mr Collins if he had received a 'knock on the door' from PC Knacker. 'I haven't as yet,' he replied, 'but I will be interested to see whether there is anyone waiting for me when I
get home'.
Obiter wonders whether, if Mr Collins were ever to find himself escorted 'down the station', he would be happy for his case to be handled by the defence solicitor call centre - and if not, which solicitor would he call to represent him?
