Obiter heard tell this week of an intriguing tale of sibling rivalry – two brothers pitted against each other in a public battle. But this time it was not David and Ed. No indeed: Kamar Uddin, principal at Birmingham firm Res Ipsa, was pitted against his brother Sham Uddin, solicitor at Birmingham firm Hamstead Law Practice, in front of Judge Purle QC. The two solicitor-advocates courageously slugged it out for 10 days on behalf of their clients, in a partnership dispute over the ownership of a restaurant. Exactly who won, Obiter is not entirely sure, with the spoils of victory related to the arcane matter of apportionment of interest in the business, rather than a glamorous title like ‘leader of the opposition’. But no doubt the battle was every bit as vigorous.
