Four weeks to go and the World Cup piggybacking has kicked off, with Leeds firm Godloves scoring the opening goal. The ‘football mad’ firm is offering free wills advice to clients until 9 June – if England win the World Cup they won’t be billed. Sceptical readers might think it says a lot about England’s chances if a law firm is offering to give something for nothing if our brave lads manage to lift the trophy. But if that is the case, Godloves must be equally dubious about the prospects of our Gallic rivals. The firm has apparently also offered free advice to a French supporter if his national team manages to lift the cup. Managing partner Paul Carvis says the ‘joy of watching England win after 44 years of hurt’ will make up for any financial loss to the firm that an England victory could cause. But Obiter hopes that not too many people will take up the generous offer. We don’t want Carvis forced to contemplate sneaking into the England camp to spike Rooney’s tea just before the final.
