Christmas cards – of the paper variety, not the pert and pointless email attachments that fill up mailboxes and nobody ever clicks on – have long been a civilised method of sending seasonal good wishes. But one pressure group, Justice for All, has spotted the opportunity they represent for making a rather pertinent point. The coalition of legal and advice agencies (and others) sent Christmas cards to MPs last month warning them that they could be overwhelmed by constituents’ problems as a result of government cuts. They pressed home their point with a specially commissioned cartoon (pictured).

No doubt these will have been given pride of place in constituency offices alongside the usual cringeworthy official card from Dave, Nick or Ed. But with the 12th day of Christmas just having passed, let’s hope the honourable members have taken them down by now.
