Who would want to be married to a lawyer? Apart from never seeing the other half, having to listen to endless whingeing about that annoying client, and sharing a bed with the blasted BlackBerry - it comes to all lawyers sooner or later - it turns out that solicitors are also rather pushy and money-grabbing partners. Research from legal recruiters Hudson has shown that 60% of male lawyers, and 65% of women, have a problem with the size of their spouse's pay packet. According to Hudson, the findings 'shed light on the pressure many employees suffer at home to move to a better-paid job, potentially at the cost of other important factors that contribute to job satisfaction'. It seems that equality-minded lawyers believe that if they have to spend all weekend chained to their desks to meet those chunky mortgage payments, why should their loved ones be let off the hook?
Obiter is even more intrigued by the small minority of male lawyers - 6% - who actually wish their partner earned less. Presumably these handbag-battered chaps find their wife's large salary a terrible blow to the ego. Bless 'em.
