Obiter can reveal the real reason the Golden Globes were cancelled in the US. It had nothing to do with the writers' strike; rather the organisers knew that they had no chance of competing with the unveiling of Marketing magazine's annual list of the most irritating television adverts. And for the second year running, the winner is none other than Injury Lawyers 4U, the personal injury marketing network run by Manchester law firm Amelans, our favourite rampant self-publicists. Senior partner Andrew Twambley trumpeted the success, before humbly acknowledging to us that 'it was quite an achievement to get it two years running'. In a rare moment of seriousness, he explained that the adverts aim to evoke a direct response and clearly do just that. 'They're only annoying to people who don't want the service,' he insisted.
