More news of glamorous City solicitor-turned-pugilist Laura Saperstein, late of Freshfields. Obiter might well be renamed 'Oracle' following our suggestion last month that the bellicose Aussie could soon find herself in the sights of Britain's top boxing promoters.

Lo, it came to pass. On 1 February, Laura will become the first woman in the UK to box for a member of this elite cadre - Frank Maloney - in only her second professional bout. She is on the undercard of a televised show at York Hall, Bethnal Green, the home of boxing in London. A propos of nothing much, York Hall is where the Kray Twins used to box before turning their hands to less regulated forms of violence.

Says Laura: 'They [the promoters] are all on record as saying they'd never have women on their shows. But last time I looked, all things were still in order in that department, so it looks like attitudes may finally be changing!'

Alas, Laura won't be on TV, as apparently Sky is giving precedence to a UK title fight (men only). Shame on them. It's a diabolical liberty, as Ronnie and Reggie might say.
