Calling all nautical solicitors - your sailing expertise is needed for a, dare we say, 'titanic' battle between the two sides of the profession to take place at Cowes, Isle of Wight on 22 June.
Barrister Simon Calhaem at 29 Bedford Row has laid down the gauntlet and challenged solicitors to a sailing competition involving a fleet of Sonars. There'll be a training session in the morning with the big race in the afternoon, and plenty of sustenance afterwards at the local sailing club - presumably with a few drunken sailors. The teams will comprise three crews of three - so far the able crewmen on the solicitors' team include former Welsh champion Sian Reynolds at Osborne Clarke, Adrian Falck at Preston Redman in Bournemouth, Bruce Bower at Everys in Exmouth, Serena Grainger at Davies Johnson & Co in Plymouth and Law Society press officer Catherine Reed, who is organising the solicitors' team.
Catherine is still short of a few nautical lawyers, so anyone who knows their reefing line from their running rigging should contact: catherine.reed@lawsociety.org.uk.
