Talk about having your cake and eating it. Walsall solicitors Enoch Evans is looking for sponsorship for the forthcoming local half-marathon.

But hey, who can motivate themselves to slog through all those miles of training on wet November evenings unless there is a tangible benefit to be had? So the firm had a novel idea – let’s get unfit before we start.

In an effort to pile on the pounds, Enoch Evans held a ‘cake fest’, at which staff brought in a selection of self-baked goodies, ranging from your good old English fruit cake (best served with cheshire cheese in our opinion) to the rather more exotic white chocolate cheesecake. Slices were sold to raise money.

No mention of Black Forest gateau though – whatever happened to that by the way? It seems to have gone the way of the Vauxhall Viva and the three-day week, though given the 1970s revival, maybe it’s still out there somewhere.
