Just what the world needs - another US lawyer-turned-thriller-writer. Following in the footsteps of Grisham, Scottoline et al, we now have Milton Hirsh, a criminal law practitioner from Miami who has penned... wait for it... a story of drugs and murder in Miami. The novel - The Shadow of Justice - is the first work of fiction to be published by the American Bar Association's (ABA) book publishing division in its 126-year history, and was launched at the ABA's Atlanta conference earlier this month. It is the first in the association's new series, 'Great stories by great lawyers'. According to the ABA, 'the series will feature new novels by those who know the legal system best: practising lawyers and judges'. Mr Hirsh bashed out his contribution early in the mornings before his working days began. On completion, it sat in his desk drawer for three years before coming to the attention of his ABA publishers. We await to see whether he is the next in a long line of 'new John Grishams'.
