When out and about in the company of solicitors, as Obiter often is, it is not uncommon for members of the profession to suggest improvements to this publication. Obiter is duty bound to listen, of course. But a suggestion made at a drinks party this week caught us rather by surprise. An eminent criminal defence solicitor proposed that the Gazette should abandon ‘Lawyer in the News’, and replace it with ‘Lawyer in the Nude’. The section would be illustrated by a well-known solicitor’s head, and either the naked body of a celebrity or, if the lawyer were to agree, an image of said solicitor starkers. Sadly, as much of the profession could not be said to boast what one would term a ‘beach physique’, Obiter has sagely undertaken to ensure that this particular innovation does not come to fruition. Any solicitors who have already cued up an image of themselves for publication, kindly refrain from pressing ‘send’. Please. You won’t get past the firewall anyway.
