Driving at 140 miles per hour in a petrol-guzzling dinosaur of a car is personal injury solicitor Andrew Harrison’s idea of fun. It’s not without its risks, however – he once hurt his thumb spinning off at a bend, poor love.

Harrison, an assistant solicitor at Yorkshire firm Raleys, has just won Class D of the Toyo Tyres Jaguar XJS Championship in only his second year of competitive racing. He also came second in last weekend’s Birkett six-hour endurance team race at Silverstone.

Harrison says his car, a modified four-litre, five-speed manual Jaguar XJS, has more than held its own against more powerful race-prepared models: ‘But I’ve gone as far as I can go begging car parts from friends. I’m hoping a sponsor will now come forward and help me win the overall title.’ He is by no means the only solicitor to hurl himself around race tracks at insane speeds in his spare time – what is it about legal life that encourages that, we wonder?
