The Solicitors Association of Higher Court Advocates (SAHCA) held a civilised and exclusive reception for its members and top-ranking judges last week. As Mark Clough QC of Ashurst is the current SAHCA chairman the event was conducted on the balcony of the City firm's Appold Street HQ. Leading out to the terrace guests caught sight of what appeared to be a long-standing notice: 'Please do not slam the door. The partner next door is finding it very annoying!!!' Speculation was rife as to what the poor assistant or trainee who obviously shared the office next door with the partner thought about it all. Mr Clough himself was remaining dutifully silent on the identity of the partner. But Obiter did some digging and a little bird might have let on; however, we too will save the sensitive partner's blushes.
