New Martin Scorsese films are awaited with great expectation by cinema aficionados, as the man who has brought us Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas is generally considered to be at the top of the directorial tree. So it would have been something of a coup for the London office of US firm Weil Gotshal & Manges when it announced a private pre-release press screening of The Aviator for legal hacks and others the other week. Unfortunately, film-makers are not as reliable as lawyers, and the firm had to send out a short note following the invitation, to the effect that the screening was cancelled owing to 'the film director wanting to re-shoot some of the scenes'. Still, the cut and thrust of Hollywood still affords the law firm some reflected glamour.
