It’s amazing to what lengths some solicitors will go to escape from the office. Manchester lawyers Chris Adams and Sean Daly, otherwise known as team ‘Freewheeling Palm Trees’, today set off on a 3,000-mile round trip to southern Italy in a 20-year-old Merc. The pair, who are being sponsored by their firm Freeclaim, are raising money for Manchester charitable fund The Christie by taking part in the Staples2Naples banger rally. Does this mean the duo will be setting off from their local branch of the popular office stationer’s? In fact, Staples refers to Staples Corner, the junction at the end of the M1, but the race doesn’t actually begin there at all; the starting flag goes up in Calais. Obiter finds this a tad disappointing and suggests the lads follow a better poetic route: Dover to Hannover, Hay to Bombay, or indeed Milan to Japan.
