Helena Kennedy QC entertained guests at last week's College of Law dinner and awards ceremony - which caps off the British Council's annual European young lawyers scheme - with her usual mix of iconoclastic enthusiasm for the law. To illustrate her rebellious nature, Ms Kennedy said she was once introduced to a conference as 'the lawyer who represents women and other criminals'. But what the Baroness wouldn't have expected - as she was handing out certificates to the young European lawyers - was the eagerness of one of the Croatian delegation. On taking his award, Silvije Cipcic-Bragadic promptly gripped the eminent silk in what can only be described as an enthusiastic embrace. But as one of the guests described the evening as 'Eurovision for the law', it was probably exactly the right approach to take.
