Slam junk: lawyers who spend a lot of time arguing that the 'compensation culture' does not exist will groan at this news from the Yorkshire Evening Post. A homeowner in Leeds is being sued by a cake decorator, who claims to have hurt her finger on his letterbox while delivering 'junk mail'. The cake decorator says she severed the top of one of her fingers when the letterbox snapped back on her, and her culinary prowess has been hampered as a result. The exasperated-sounding homeowner told the Post: 'I didn't invite this person on to my property and there is nothing wrong with the letterbox - it is just like every other letterbox on the estate. It's the one that came with the house!' He added: 'It seems like we're becoming more and more like America. Everyone wants compensation.' He has now put a poster in his window making it clear that he does not wish to receive junk mail. And who can blame him?
