In a move reminiscent of the 'Back to the Floor' programme on the box, the managing partner and chief executive respectively of City firms Richards Butler and Collyer-Bristow - Roger Parker and Jonathan Fox- have come up with a novel bet. Both firms sponsor leading British sailors who are representing Great Britain at the Olympics in Athens. In Collyer-Bristow's case, it's Tornado sailors Mark Bulkeley and Leigh McMillan, who won a silver medal at last year's world championships. Richards Butler on the other hand is backing Ben Ainslie, who already has an Olympic gold and silver under his belt. Depending on which firm's sailor comes lower down in the results table, Mr Fox or Mr Parker will spend a day as a mail boy at the other's firm. Obiter hopes the initiative will catch on - lawyers and clients alike, we're sure, would be delighted to play 'spot the senior partner cleaning another law firm's offices';. Meanwhile, in a candidate for most ghost-written quote in a press release 2004, the sailors took time out from their training to say:'We don't know which we fear more - losing an Olympic title, or the wrath of a law firm's MD being forced into a mailroom for a day'.
