The Gazette is for all solicitors, not just those who own firms. While the recent article ‘How to: reduce staff pay’ may have been helpful to law firm owners, it is likely to have been viewed with dismay by solicitors currently on the receiving end of reductions to their terms and conditions.

Moreover, the article states: ‘The rules require the firm to inform and consult with trade union or employee representatives for up to 30 days (45 days where there are 100 or more potentially affected employees)’. In fact, employers must consult for a minimum of 30 or 45 days respectively, an important distinction which has been the subject of litigation in the highest appellate courts.
