Personal injury consulting law firm, Citadel Law has appointed litigation and costs specialist, Phil Sherwood.

Phil will work closely with Citadel’s established PI litigation and costs specialist, Emma Adams, to evaluate how loss of success fees from paying parties is translating into fee income, by advising on work-in-progress (WIP) value and PI caseload risks, as well as identifying issues to provide the best profit and claimant outcomes for Citadel Law’s law firm clients.

Phil is a chartered legal executive and has, over a 26-year career, worked at a number of firms across the UK, including PR Hanna, Andrew Isaacs, and Coles Miller, the latter two as head of department.

As well as significant experience in serious injury cases including RTA, industrial disease, employers’ liability, public liability, occupiers’ liability and clinical negligence involving complex issues upon liability, causation and quantum, Phil is also a costs consultant, working with both claimant and defendant law firms, and insurers.

He is a member of the Civil Justice Council’s costs committee and has reported to the master of the rolls with an evidence-based review of guideline hourly rates. Phil has also recently been appointed a CILEX council member.

Citadel Law managing director Lesley Graves, said: ‘As well as banks and accountants instructing Citadel Law to help them better understand the true financial picture of their law firms clients, we are also seeing more and more law firms approaching us to help them better understand their WIP and improve financial performance, so it is great to have someone of Phil’s calibre on board.

‘Already he has made a big impact, working on a seven-figure banking facility for a fast-growth PI firm and his expertise further strengthens our ability to manage our increasing instructions.’
