Leicester firm Spearing Waite has made a senior hire as part of growth plans. The firm has appointed Rachael McConaghie as a partner and head of its real estate dispute resolution team.

She was previously head of property litigation at Sherrards Solicitors. Prior to joining Sherrards in 2006, Rachael was at BP Collins in Gerrard’s Cross.

Rachael studied law at Cardiff University where she also completed her Legal Practice Course. She qualified as a solicitor in April 1998.

Rachael said she was delighted to have been appointed by Spearing Waite, commenting: 'I knew I wanted to be part of such an ambitious and progressive firm with an excellent client base. I immediately felt at home with Spearing Waite and the firm’s friendly and inclusive culture. I’m looking forward to working with the team to further grow our property litigation offering.'

Rachael is a keen advocate of mediation within litigation and has undertaken many successful mediations for the benefit of clients and their commercial interests.

She has been a member of the Property Litigation Association since 2007 and a member of the Association of Women in Property since 2003 and was Chairman for the South East Branch from 2010-2011.

She is also a trustee on the board of The Shared Learning Trust which is a multi academy school trust in Luton and Dunstable.

Commenting on Rachael’s appointment, Spearing Waite managing partner Jonathan Wheeler said: 'It is a pleasure to welcome Rachael to our growing team. Her experience and client skills are first rate and I am certain she will make an excellent addition to the Spearing Waite partnership.

'Rachael will be supported by associate Hannah Carter, and we will be looking to make further hires into the team as our real estate client base grows and develops.'
