Rahman Ravelli has hired former SFO prosecutor Zulfi Meerza as senior associate and Angelika Hellweger as legal director.

Hellweger, a dual-qualified Austrian counsel and English solicitor, is a specialist in international, high-level economic crime investigations and large-scale commercial litigation, with experience representing corporates and conglomerates in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the United States.

She advises corporates on regulatory and compliance matters and manages global offensive asset tracing and recovery litigation. She is also set to work in Rahman Ravelli’s cryptocurrency team. Her work on cases involving environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues has seen her advise high-profile, multi-national companies on compliance and secured the termination of regulatory and criminal investigations.

Meerza represents corporates, board members, senior business figures and high net worth individuals. At the SFO, he worked on some of the most notable and highly-publicised investigations; ranging from banks seeking international financing and alleged multinational corruption by companies through to fraud and money laundering on a global scale and the collapse of financial investment funds.

As a member of Rahman Ravelli’s corporate crime practice group, he will work on multi-jurisdictional, high-profile criminal investigations, serious regulatory matters and complex commercial litigation relating to corporate misconduct. He also has a growing sanctions caseload.

Rahman Ravelli’s founder and senior partner Aziz Rahman commented: 'Rising client demand and the international situation relating to matters such as sanctions has created a clear need for the firm to expand; particularly regarding its investigations and EU practice groups.

'Zulfi and Angelika have the experience, expertise and all-important insight that fit precisely with the service we provide for national and international clients.'
