FremantleMedia, one of the largest creators, producers and distributors of television brands in the world, has announced the appointment of Robin Chalmers to the role of general counsel.

Chalmers will replace Sarah Tingay, who retires from the company on September 30 after 27 years of service.

Reporting to FremantleMedia’s COO/CFO Sangeeta Desai, Chalmers will provide, and be responsible for, legal and commercial advice across the full range of businesses within FremantleMedia around the world, in order to ensure that FremantleMedia executes its commercial and corporate strategy within international legal frameworks. The role also oversees the protection of the FremantleMedia’s intellectual property rights and seeks to protect the business against any legal risks.

Sangeeta Desai said: ‘Robin brings extensive international experience, having worked across diverse operations in Asia, Australia, Europe and Latin America.

‘He combines expertise in the media sector - working across production, distribution, channel networks, home entertainment, advertising sales and digital platforms – with strong experience in corporate transactional activity such as M&A and joint ventures. I’m really looking forward to him joining the business where he will be an invaluable member of the senior management team.

‘I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Sarah Tingay for her contribution to the success of FremantleMedia in the many years that she has worked with us.’

Robin Chalmers added: ‘I am delighted to be taking up the role of general counsel at FremantleMedia. Joining such a global creative force at such an exciting time is fantastic.

‘I am very much looking to working with the team to support the success for the business going forward. I can’t wait to get started.’

Chalmers will join FremantleMedia after the summer.
