The Law Society is seeking to appoint members to its alternative dispute resolution committee.

Members of this specialist committee play a vital role in bringing practical experience to the work of the Society on policy and practice.

The committee remit is wide and includes:

- Setting standards and the regulatory framework for family and civil/commercial mediation;

- Promoting awareness about alternative dispute resolution to the profession and the general public;

- Responding to consultation papers on law reform and procedures in England and Wales, as well as in Europe.

Applications are sought from practitioners and academics from family and civil/commercial mediation backgrounds who have an active interest in law reform and changes in practice and procedure.

The role will be to contribute practical experience at the committee's meetings (which take place six times a year) and to contribute to the work of specific projects.

Women and people from ethnic minorities are currently under-represented on the committee and are encouraged to apply.

To request an application form and a copy of the appointment criteria, write to Kalpana Amin at the Law Society, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL, or e-mail: kalpana.amin@lawsociety.org.uk.

The closing date for applications is 20 November 2003.
