The Law Society is seeking members to join its European Union committee.
The committee is responsible for ensuring that the Society responds to relevant EU proposals and communications in a timely and effective manner.
It is also responsible for making recommendations to the Law Society's Council and boards on other aspects of the Society's relationship with the EU.
Experience of working in or lobbying EU institutions, practice before the European courts or other relevant experience of EU law (for example, the teaching of EU law) would also be an advantage.
Applications are particularly invited from solicitors working in local government or commerce and industry or from those with experience of working in one of the following specialist areas: immigration or asylum practice, criminal law and family law.
The committee meets at the Law Society's office in Brussels up to six times a year (travelling and incidental expenses are paid) and members are expected to attend most meetings.
Membership will also require an occasional time commitment between meetings.
All solicitors with the enthusiasm, expertise and time necessary, irrespective of sex, race, colour, age, sexuality, religion or disability are welcome to apply.
Appointments will be made following interviews of shortlisted candidates to establish that the committee is representative of all the areas of European law in which the Law Society requires expertise.
For an application pack, contact June O'Keeffe, head of EU affairs, at the Law Society's office in Brussels, tel: +32 (0)2 743 85 85; fax: +32 (0)2 743 85 86; e-mail: june.o'keeffe@lawsociety.org.uk; post: Law Society Brussels Office, 142-144 Avenue de Tervuren, 1150 Brussels.
The closing date for applications is 4 June.
Interviews will be held later in June.
