NP Tweddle is wrong to think that the lunatics have taken over the asylum (see [2007] Gazette, 30 August, 14).
While he was the lucky beneficiary of £270 more than he would otherwise have received, the Legal Services Commission (LSC) is on target to bank a cool £35 million of savings through means testing, so it will not be unduly worried at the pitiful windfall handed out on this occasion. The LSC should not take any pride in this, however, as it is at the expense of working class people of very moderate means who have been priced out of access to justice. No lunatics in the LSC asylum - just lots of accountants.
