Bahl discrimination case against Law Society begins. The sex and race discrimination case being brought against the Law Society by its former Vice-President, Kamlesh Bahl, opened this week at the Watford employment tribunal.Ms Bahl has alleged discrimination by three individual respondents as well as the Society as a body.

In addition, she has brought separate proceedings alleging victimisation.

All respondents strenuously deny the allegations.

The hearing has been listed for four weeks.

The first two days were devoted to legal arguments largely dealing with the admissibility of evidence.

The tribunal excluded certain evidence advanced by Ms Bahl on the grounds that it was not germane to the case before it.Last April, Ms Bahl resigned as vice-president following a report by the former law lord, Lord Griffiths, which found she had bullied staff members.

London firm Christian Fisher is acting on behalf of Ms Bahl, and is instructing Robin Allen QC.

City firm Herbert Smith is acting for the Law Society, and is instructing Paul Goulding QC.
