An alternative dispute resolution (ADR) group created by barristers was launched in the City last week.
ADR Associates at One Chancery Lane in London opened with ten barristers offering arbitration adjudication and mediation in international and domestic disputes ranging from construction to commercial work.
Clients will pay the barristers individually for work undertaken and the barristers will use the same building as a traditional chambers from which to carry out conventional barristers' work.
One Chancery Lane's manager, Lee Ainsworth, said it was not possible for solicitors to join the group as mediators because under Law Society rules they would not be permitted to offer services as solicitors within the chambers.
But she said the new venture looked forward to working closely with solicitors.
The firm's building includes video and audio conferencing rooms and transcription services.
