Bragging rights among solicitors in Manchester have been won in the arena where they matter most - not the courtroom, of course, but the five-a-side football pitch.

Local firm Betesh Fox & Co teamed up with Furniture Management Services and Pro.Manchester to run a competition for professionals in the city, in aid of cancer research.

Sadly for Betesh Fox itself, as well as Eversheds and Davis Blank Furniss, rival Tranters came out on top in the 'battle for the boot' (a game also played at City firms in recent months, though without a football in sight).

Perhaps best known for its personal injury practice, it is not known whether Tranters was also able to drum up some business with a display of Roy Keane-like aggression around the pitch.

With a charity auction thrown in, the event raised around 3,000.
