As a member of one of the firms of solicitors participating in the London bombings pro bono initiative, I am appalled to hear that claims farmers are allegedly taking advantage of those who were injured or lost loved ones in the London attacks (see [2005] Gazette, 4 August, 1).
Many of the clients we have contacted are still distressed and vulnerable. Unfortunately, the negative publicity is likely to tar the profession with the same brush as the claims farmers, in the eyes of the public. This disgraceful conduct in itself must justify the government's pleas to regulate claims farmers.
