Presumably, if Sir Ken Macdonald QC is correct and designated case workers have 'substantial experience and knowledge of the law and court procedures, and are given full training for the hearings they conduct', they should have little difficulty in passing the relevant professional examinations such that they are able to qualify as lawyers (see [2007] Gazette, 19 July, 4).


Or perhaps the government is reluctant to stretch the Crown Prosecution Service budget to cope with the expense of paying for said examinations and the salary increases that might flow from passing them?
