I have been privileged to speak to several home information pack (HIP) production companies in recent days. In each case, I have asked what they thought the reaction of sellers of four-bedroomed houses who are selling to downsize would be to the news that they will have to pay for a HIP and for searches on their new home too, and what those persons would think when they realised that only one HIP in a chain cannot be of any use.


There has been a period of silence followed by the comment that they had not thought of it. Nor has the government.
