Opportunities exist in the Chinese market for English and Welsh law firms of all sizes, Law Society President Kevin Martin said this week following a ten-day trip to Beijing and Shanghai to highlight the scope for increased co-operation.

Mr Martin, pictured (centre right) at a meeting with officials of the Shanghai Bureau of Justice, said: 'There are a growing number of British small and medium-sized businesses looking for legal advice and for law firms to work with them and their Chinese legal advisers.'

The trip included meetings with the Chinese deputy minister of justices and the president of the All China Lawyers Association, as well as the managing partners of the 15 English law firms with offices in the country.

The delegation included Bar Council chairman Stephen Hockman QC.
