Global law firms Clifford Chance and Linklaters have topped The American Lawyer's 2006 Global 100 of the world's largest firms by turnover, with revenues of $1.9 billion (£1 billion) and $1.7 billion, respectively. The magazine found that gross revenues for the top 100 firms reached $59.8 billion (£32 billion), up 11% on the previous year. Baker & McKenzie employed the greatest number of lawyers (2,975), while New York firm Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz remained the most profitable practice, with profits per partner of $3.8 billion (£2 billion). Slaughter and May was the only City firm to make the top ten in the profits per partner rankings. SJ Berwin entered the top 100 by revenue for the first time, taking 95th place.
