Management at City firms Clyde & Co and Barlow Lyde & Gilbert have revealed details of their forthcoming merger after partners gave their backing last week.

The combined firm will be called Clyde & Co, and will have 270 partners, more than 1,250 fee earners and around 2,250 total staff operating from 27 offices.

The newly-combined firms have sought to dismiss any suggestion that the current Clyde & Co firm will dominate the new practice. They said it has been agreed that elements of the BLG brand will be maintained, and its staff will not be sidelined.

Peter Hasson, chief executive of Clyde & Co, said: ‘We have immense respect for the partners, lawyers and staff at BLG, whose practices complement rather than duplicate those of Clyde & Co.

‘We look forward very much to working together to create a new firm that offers the very best of both.’

Clyde & Co’s Michael Payton will be the senior partner of the combined firm, with Hasson installed as chief executive.

BLG will have three partners taking roles on the merged firm’s board, with David Jabbari becoming chief operating officer.

Jabbari added: ‘The merged firm will represent one of the very top dispute resolution practices, while the combination of the two leading insurance law firms will provide the market with a breadth and quality of offering that will be difficult to match.’
