Criminal law committee - vacancy for committee member
The Law Society is seeking to appoint a member to its criminal law committee.
Members of the committee play a vital role in bringing practical experience to the work of the Society in developing policy on law reform and best practice guidance to the professions.
The role of the committee is wide and includes lobbying work on legislation, monitoring development in procedure, the Human Rights Act, European Union legislation and public funding.
Responding to consultation papers on reform of law and procedure is a major part of the committee's work.
The committee has a wide membership including defence practitioners with a range of expertise, prosecutors, justices' clerks, a district judge and an academic lawyer.
The committee is losing its academic member and is seeking a replacement.
Applicants are sought who are academics specialising in criminal law, particularly in evidence, a knowledge and expertise in criminal justice policy.
Some practical experience is desirable.
Applicants from women and ethnic minorities are encouraged.
